Delivered by Silver Knight Academy (formerly the BFI Future Film Academy)
Our intensive BFI Film Academy Short Course offers hands-on filmmaking workshops and technical training to 20 students. We have talks from filmmakers actively working in the film industry, in the past we have had Robbie Ryan (Cinematographer), post production house Molinare and our talented alumni now working in the industry. You will work in teams towards the completion of a professional short film. We champion experimentation so as well as using professional camera, lighting and sound kit you’ll be integrating experimental techniques such as Super 8mm, 16mm film, mini DV and mobile phone videography into your films.
The dates you must be available are 11th October, 18th October, 25th October, Half-Term week 27th-30th October, 1st November, 8th November, 15th November, 22nd November and the 7th December. The course will be taking place in Brent, Park Royal and Central London. Please see full schedule on our website
In order to Apply, at the time of the course you must be
Age: 16-19 or 16 - 25 with an EHC plan
Have a passion for filmmaking and an ambition to work in the film industry
Be able to commit to the duration of the course
Not currently be at university or enrolled at university when the course starts
Living in Greater London
Have not attended a BFI Film Academy Short Course before.
We welcome applications from all over London, but if you’re from Barking and Dagenham, Brent, Croydon, Enfield, or Newham, we have reserved 50% of our spots just for you!

We are using an EARLY BIRD system; simply put, you will increase your chances if you apply early. Good applications will still beat mediocre ones, applying early gives you a few more additional points and will make the difference between similar applicants
